Perm coaches and veteran-athletes will go to the Olympics in Sochi to support the Russian team. Today they met with the Chairman of the Regional Government Gennady Tushnolobov and the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Pavel Lyakh.
- We’ve decided to support those coaches and veterans who have worked for many years for the benefit of the Perm sport and deserve such a gift for their effort. I want to emphasize that these are not officials, but veterans of the sport who are going to the Olympics in Sochi. For veterans, this trip is free. But as for officials, let them go at their own expense, Gennady Tushnolobov said.
The Olympic delegation formed by the Regional Ministry of Sports, includes 9 Perm veteran-athletes and Honored Workers of physical culture and sports in the region. They are the seven times World Champion in biathlon Venera Chernyshova; Honored coaches of Russia in figure skating Valery and Valentina Tyukovs; Honored Teacher of Russia Gennady Skladnev (Bolshaya Sosnova); International Master of Sports in Nordic combined, a participant of the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988 Sergei Cherviakov; Honored Coach of Russia in skiing Sergey Morilov; Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Russia Petr Ivashov; former head coach of the hockey club "Molot-Prikamye" Gennady Kosolapov; and Hero of Socialist Labor, director of the Perm Stud Farm (1984-2004) Gennady Mikov. Veterans will live on the Norwegian ship - a five star hotel. They will be able to visit the most exciting sporting events.
Financial support for the Perm veterans’ trip to the Olympics was given by Lukoil, OJSC MegaFon, Lukoil Overseas, JSC Solikamskbumprom, Uralsib CB, JSC PZMASH, and JSC Reducer PM.
Two more representatives of Perm Region - winners of the Olympic Games Svetlana Vysokova and Vladimir Alikin were invited to Sochi by the National Olympic Committee.
- Also, we found a way to send to Sochi coaches of 10 regional sports schools for children, so that they could see what the Olympic Games are and gain experience, Pavel Lyakh added.
The national Olympic team includes 10 athletes from the Perm Region. They are Tatyana Ivanova, Alexander Peretyagin, Vladislav Yuzhakov and Vladimir Makhnutin (luge), Regina Rakhimova, Alexander Smyshlyaev and Sergei Mozhaev (freestyle), Natalia Soboleva and Valery Kolegov (snowboard), and Evgeny Klimov (Nordic Combined). Also, more than 20 judges and delegates who will ensure the smooth running of the Olympics will go to Sochi from Prikamye.
